What is an NEC DVD-R Drive? Even though digital clouds and online storage have the most popular ways of storing movies and data, there are still times when you need a DVD. If you're looking for a way to store your old movies and data, check out the NEC DVD-R Drive. What is an NEC DVD-R?. DVD-Rs are DVD drives that are also able to record, or burn, DVDs and CDs. It's also written as RW, which is short for Re-Writeable.
DVD-Rs are capable of playing both CD and DVD-Rom. These DVD burners usually come standard with most modern PC towers. You can also buy them separately, and hook them up to your PC or Mac with a USB cable. How Does a DVD-RW Work?. Like a CD-RW, DVD-R records data onto the disk using dyes. Depending on the laser intensity, the reflective property of a dye on a disc will determine how data is read by a standard DVD player.
This is why you can see a color difference on the back of your used DVD-RWs. Standard mass-produced DVD-ROMs have the data physically stamped onto the disc.
This is a more reliable way of transferring the data than dye but far more expensive. Because the dye can be damaged, you should only hold your disc by the edges, never on the face.
Why Buy a DVD-RW? There are many reasons for purchasing an DVD-RW drive.
Discs are still a reliable way of storing data outside of your computer. If you've made any home movies with your friends or family, you can burn them onto a DVD and watch them on your television in a DVD-ROM player.
If you have any old photos you've scanned into your PC, use a movie maker to arrange them as a slideshow. Then burn it onto a DVD, and you can share it with your family and friends. Because some DVD-RWs also burn CDs, you can use your DVD-RW to burn music and playlists that you can play in your CD player. What Kind of Discs Can the NEC DVD-R Read? If you're looking to utilize DVDs and CDs as a way of storing and sharing information, you need to know what kind of discs you can use the NEC DVD-R. The NEC model should read all kinds of discs, like a CD, CD-R, and CD-Rom. It should also read your standard DVDs, DVD-Roms and DVD-Rs.
When it comes to recording data, use either a DVD-R, a DVD-RW, a CD-R or a CD-RW. If there are any problems, there may be an issue with your software.

I have also a Philips 16x speed dvdrw, mine is a oem drive I believe, my drive is called a Philips PBDV 1601P. This drive is not to find on the Philips site and there is not yet a firmware update available. My advice is to update your burning software or try other software. Try the latest Nero version, it works fine on my pc. I believe yout device manager is giving the drivers software that windows xp is using (stuurprogramma) but thats not the firmware version. You can see the firmware version when you start Nero or a program like dvd indentifier.
