2015 the company started tanking and it hasn’t been the same since. The product lauches suck, corporate doesn’t listen to what the artists and customers want. Then blame the employees/management for the lack of sales increase when the company doesnt listen to beauty trends and wonders why Sephora is DOMINATING. As a result it has become a very strictly business brand.
It used to be fun and innovative before the beauty industry blew up and product development REFUSED to address the lack of products in our line up that we so desperately needed. And NOW they want to admit that once it’s too late and customers literally could care less about Mac anymore because they have a million other options now. Mac should have captivated them when they still cared. Customers and employees alike. At the end of the day, I have seen soooo many friends of mine work for this brand for 10+ years and get fired because of something so petty. Don’t invest your time in this brand, because believe me they aren’t invested in you. You are literally there to make them money.
And trust me, no one cares when you leave. This company has changed a lot since I started. It seemed like there was so much potential. At first I wanted to be a manager but the work load that they put on mangers is unrealistic.
Every manger I have worked with works on their time off. So it’s almost expected. If you have children and need flexibility with your schedule remember this is a retail job request are considered a nuisance.
By the way they treat mangers I can see why. I’m sure it’s overwhelming with so much on their plate. Also sometimes our schedule is given the day before you have to come in. I’ve seen my manger give it to the distric manger to approve two months beforehand. Why does it take two months to approve? Business has been bad and hours are getting cut left and right. So for my freelance guys and gals good luck with hours.
I hope it turns around soon it’s getting scary. A typical day at work was having one on one appointments with clients and teaching them beauty tips as we provided makeup applications and selling them product that was beneficial to their beauty regimen. I learned a lot about makeup tips and tricks that are trending at the moment. Workplace was upbeat and fierce. The hardest part of the job was the upkeep and cleanliness. With the constant flow of customers and clients, it was very important to maintain the sanitation of the store so the work ever stopped.
The ost enjoyable part of my job was doing the makeup. It's always nice to connect with clients and teach them how to do tricks that we think are simple and them add them to their beauty regimen.

Typical day at work was to educate customers on the specific type of products they needed for their beauty regime. On event days we would apply the certain looks MAC came up with for their new lines. Had makeup appointments daily, so apply and educate clients. My co-workers were delightful and artsy.

Management was easy to speak with, and very easy to work with. The hardest part of the job was the location, our counter being understaffed mostly, and it was always very busy. So multi-tasking was learned very quickly at MAC. I loved this job.
